Mäkelä Alu to Participate in the UN COP31 Climate Conference in Türkiye
03/11/2026
Mäkelä Alu will participate in the UN COP31 Climate Conference, taking place in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026. We will be part of the Finland Pavilion, where Finnish companies and other organisations will showcase their climate solutions and meet business representatives and decision-makers from around the world.
Mäkelä Alu will share practical experiences of reducing emissions in industrial production. We will highlight measures such as the electrification of production, improvements in energy efficiency and aluminium recycling. We have been working on these areas for many years, and in 2025, we achieved net-zero emissions in our own production and internal logistics.
Industrial Climate Action Needs Incentives
Our participation aims to raise international awareness of Mäkelä Alu and our expertise, establish new partnerships and bring an industrial perspective to climate discussions.
We particularly want to highlight the importance of voluntary emissions reductions and how companies can be encouraged to invest in lower-carbon production. Investments in emissions reductions should also be reflected in companies’ competitiveness and customers’ purchasing decisions.
COP31 will also provide an opportunity to learn from other organisations’ experiences and explore new ideas for developing our own operations.
Mäkelä Alu to Host an Event at the Finland Pavilion
Mäkelä Alu will host an event at the Finland Pavilion on Tuesday, 17 November, from 13:00 to 13:45 local time, entitled:
Voluntary Action for the Planet – Mäkelä Alu’s Low-Carbon Journey and What Enables Change
During the event, we will share Mäkelä Alu’s journey towards lower-carbon aluminium profile production and discuss the conditions and incentives needed to support further climate action in industry.
The event will be opened by Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment, Sari Multala.
Mäkelä Alu will be represented at COP31 at different times by Chairman of the Board Petri Mäkelä, CEO Marko Orpana, Sustainability Director Päivi Venesoja and Development Director Tomi Pilbacka.
