AluPlanet® – Low-carbon aluminium profile product family

AluPlanet® by Mäkelä Alu is an environmentally friendly aluminium profile product family designed to meet sustainability requirements and support planetary durability.
Our AluPlanet® products play a key role in combating climate change.

Our product family consists of three unique options:

AluPlanet® Basic, Emissions 2.04 tn CO2e/t.

– A recycled, low-carbon and untreated aluminium profile that combines quality and environmental responsibility.

AluPlanet® Paint, Emissions 2.59 tn CO2e/t.

– A powder-coated aluminium profile that offers a durable and stylish finish with minimal emissions.

AluPlanet® Anod, Emissions 2.24 tn CO2e/t.

– An anodised aluminium profile that is produced energy-efficiently with environmental considerations.

Origin of Recycled Aluminium

AluPlanet® aluminium profiles are manufactured from recycled aluminium, sourced from process scrap generated in our own production, as well as aluminium scrap returned by further processing companies and customers. We remelt the aluminium scrap into billets at our own foundry. In our view, reusing material from process waste is a sustainable way to produce recycled aluminium profiles. Minimising the waste generated in production and repurposing all possible excess material in line with circular economy principles is of utmost importance to us.

The procurement of recycled aluminium generates minimal transportation emissions, as the material is moved within our factory premises, from nearby downstream processors, or as part of existing logistics operations.

According to standards, production scrap can be classified as recycled material if it has been remelted into billets and repurposed in another production process.

Emissions Calculation

The emissions from the aluminium profiles in the AluPlanet® product family are exceptionally low, at just 2,04–2,59 tn CO2e/t. Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) represents the climate impact of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. The unit used in this calculation (t CO2e/t) indicates the number of tonnes of CO2 equivalent generated in the production of one tonne of the product.

By choosing AluPlanet® profiles for your production, you can significantly reduce the environmental impact of your operations. For comparison, the average emissions for primary aluminium produced in Europe (raw material, not finished profiles) amount to 6.7 t CO2e/t.

The emissions calculation is based on the standards ISO 14025 and EN 15804:2012 + A2:2019.
